About DiscoverTutor

Learning should be something we want to do, not something we have to do.

DiscoverTutor starts with a simple idea: the right teacher can change how someone feels about learning.

We help students find tutors whose teaching approaches are compatible with how they learn, while helping tutors connect with the students they work best with. The goal isn't simply to get through the next assignment or exam. It's to make learning more understandable, enjoyable, and empowering.

To make tutoring empowering, accessible, and affordable.

In the short term, we want students to get the help they need while becoming more confident and independent learners. A tutor shouldn't just provide answers. The right tutor should help a student reach the point where they believe in their own ability to learn.

The right connection can change the experience of learning.

DiscoverTutor is not designed around simply finding any available tutor.

Students and tutors answer questions about learning preferences, teaching approaches, and communication. DiscoverTutor uses these answers to help identify compatible matches.

A good match should:

To inspire a love of learning by connecting people with compatible tutors who can teach, guide, and inspire them.

We want the relationship between a student and tutor to do more than improve a grade. Better understanding can build confidence. Confidence can make learning enjoyable. And when learning becomes enjoyable, motivation can begin to come from within.

To transform learning from something we have to do into something we want to do.

For much of our lives, learning is presented as an obligation. We study because we need the grade, the credential, or the job.

DiscoverTutor wants to help build a different relationship with learning: one driven by curiosity, purpose, creativity, and personal growth.

Over time, DiscoverTutor should grow beyond traditional academic tutoring. Learning can mean mathematics and science, but it can also mean art, writing, music, languages, fitness, and countless other skills and interests.

We want people to discover what interests them, what they are capable of, and what they want to become.

Education can prepare us for more than work.

Technology, including AI, is changing the role that work and education play in our lives. As technology gives people greater freedom from tasks once performed out of necessity, education can become about more than preparing for employment.

A better future needs people who have a sense of purpose and a desire to keep growing.

For children especially, we believe education should eventually answer, “Why do I want to learn?”
